Previous                 Philately Goes Bananas                 Next Aitutaki According to an article posted in 2022 in Aitutaki's Secret Garden, "on Aitutaki, it is quite hard to find good, productive and rich virgin soil these days, as many of the less than 15 square km have been extensively planted, over the last 40 years, with Bananas which require big amounts of artificial fertilizers to produce good crops. These bananas were exported to the New Zealand market on the monthly steamer from there, and helped to bring much needed export earnings to the Cook Islands."
