Ethiopia

In 2019 Ethiopia produced 539,443 tonnes of bananas ranking 31st in the world behind Uganda and before Malawi. This does not include the production of enset, Ensete ventricosum, the "Ethiopian banana" or "Abyssinian banana." This species of flowering plant is in the banana family Musaceae but the fruit is not palatable. The plant is cultivated in Ethiopia where its roots provide a staple food.
