Previous                 Philately Goes Bananas                 Next Mayotte The French economic research agency FruiTrop reported in 2020 that the banana crop, "a staple of the dietary balance of the local population," had been infected by TR4 fusarium wilt. The fungus had been found in soil growing both cooking and dessert bananas, posing a serious threat both on Mayotte and on surrounding Indian Ocean islands with which there is much trade.
