The Ahichhatragarh (Hooded Cobra) Fort, built between the 12th and mid-18th centuries was given to the ruler of Jodhpur by the Mughals. An elaborate reservoir and system of aqueducts provided water for gardens and decorative pools. Air ducts were designed to provide cool air to inner rooms and elaborate frescoes that in the process of restoration decorate many of the rooms and halls of the fort. In modern times the buildings of the fort have been occupied by squatters and used as a military barracks. Extensive rennovations have been necessitated.
