Boat Ride on the Ganges
As one walks along the ghats along the Ganges there are frequent encounters with touts trying to sell boat rides on the Ganges. There are no fixed rates but when we were there available boats seemed to greatly exceed the potential customers. The boat that we were on had been in the oarsman's family for several generations and we sensed that as late as it was in the afternoon, we were his first customers of the day.
