The samurai depicted on this equestrian statue in Shiroyama Park is Kanamori Nagachika (1524 – 1568) who lived from the Sengoku period into the early Edo period. The first ruler of the Kanamori clan, he served as a retainer of the Oda, Toyotomi and Tokugawa clans. Later in his life he became a daimyo, or great lord and vassal of the shogun. Until its death, Nagachika served the Saito clan of Mino Province. Later as a retainer of Oda Nobunaga he served as the ruler of Matsukura Castle and Takayama Castle.
