A.E. McKeen General Store (Mainville House)

The Mainville house which is presented on the museum site as the A.E. McKeen General Store may have been constructed as a family home in either 1854 and 1880.

The bellcast eaves, symmetrical facades and log construction are typical of the Canadien style adapting French influences to readily available materials (timber) and the Canadian environment. Bellcast eaves were particularly useful because they sheltered the building from the sun, rain and ice. The dormer window is another characteristic of the Canadien style.
