Mallon Saw and Shingle Mill

This building is a 1986 replica of an early twentieth century saw and shingle mill modelled on the steam-powered Mallon saw and shingle mill in Poltimore, Quebec.
The shingle mill at the museum is powered by a tractor while the saw mill uses a Fairbanks-Morse diesel engine.
Such small mills served an important role in small communities because they enabled residents to take advantage of local forests to obtain lumber and shingles for construction.
