Canadian Horse

The Canadian Horse is descended from Norman and Breton breeds from France's royal stables that were sent to New France in 1665. These horses, from mixed Arabian, Andalusian and Barb bloodlines proved extremely hardy and outworked and outlived other breeds in harsh Canadian weather. This "little iron horse" has been brought back from the verge of extinction in the late 19th century. In 2002 the Canadian government declared the Canadian Horse breed Canada's national horse. The 350th anniversary of the Canadian horse breed was commemorated in 2015.
