Day 2 - Saturday, February 2, 2019
Arusha

On the morning of our first full day in Tanzania we went for a game walk in Arusha National Park. Our first close contact with "big game" was our encounter with these African Buffalo. Our guide's advice was to remove backbacks and lie down flat if they were to charge. They are much faster than than might appear.

Warthogs were browsing at the feet of the buffalo.

At first our guide spotted giraffes in the distance on the far side of a swamp we could not cross. We hoped it would get better and it did. The slogan "Utunze Mazingira" on our guide's shirt means "Preserve the Environment" in Swahili.

As a light rain began, we started a game drive during which we spotted a waterbuck.

We also encountered a troop of baboons including an albino which our guide told us was indicative of inbreeding.
