Vinh Ha Long

(Ha Long Bay - UNESCO World Heritage Site)

According to legend, a celestial dragon and its offspring defended Vietnam from an invading navy by spitting out the

rocks that form the 1600 limestones islands and rock outcroppings that dot the 4000 square kilometres of the bay.

French tourists visited the grotto of Hang Dau Go as early as the late nineteenth century and they named it the Grotte des Merveilles

because of the variety of wondrous forms of the stalagmites and stalactites.
