Charles Darwin and the Galapagos Islands

Charles Darwin (1809-1882) The British naturalist best known for On the Origin of Species was honoured by Ecuador with a set of six stamps commemorating the centenary of his visit to the Galapagos, September 17, 1835.

Charles Darwin's visit to the Galapagos Islands in 1835 aboard the Beagle inspired much of the thinking that went into the publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859.
