Oxford House is linked to the outside by air.

Most traffic uses the airstrip but float and ski planes often provide
access to remote fishing camps and trap lines. In the winter there
is an ice road that is used to bring in fuel and non-perishable goods.

In earlier times trade goods would have flowed through
Oxford House in the Hudson Bay Company's York Boats
such as this one located at Lower Fort Garry near Winnipeg.

The settlement originated as a Hudson Bay post approximately half way between York Factory
and Norway House on the route taken by York Boats on the Hayes River.

Fishing and trapping are still practiced in this Cree community.
