On February 8, 1957 the Dominican Republic issued two semi-postal minature sheets with surcharges to support Hungarian refugees following the Soviet Union's occupation of Hungary. Miniature sheets featuring winners of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and their national flags were overprinted with a logo for Hungarian Refugee Relief, the caption "PARA LAS VICTIMAS DE LA RECIENTE BARBARIE COMUNISA", the United National emblem and a an excerpt from a statement from the General Assembly of the United Nations Gerneral Assembly condemning the Soviet infringement on the freedom and independence of Hungary. Issued in both perforated and imperforate formats, the miniature sheets are mentioned in a note in the Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue.
