Rouletted Nahariya Local Issue on Post Card
Imperforate Nahariya Local Issue on Post Card
Nahariya is located on the Mediterranean Sea, approximately 30 miles north of Haifa. On March 14, 1948, the postmaster
was notified by the British authorities that, effective March 15, services would be suspended. On March 22 a motor launch carried
a batch of letters from Nahariya to Haifa. Boat mail service continued until May 13 when the road to Nahariya was opened. On
April 25, 1948 a set of three stamps was issued to pay for the service at twice the regular rates. The 10 mils fee was for cards, 20
mils for letters, and 50 mils for registered letters. Stamps were issued in sheets of eight rouletted, horizontally imperforate and
imperforate. Municipal revenue stamps were used to pay for delivery on incoming mail. An additional issue with a souvenir sheet
was released on May 16, 1948.
