Commemorative Cancellations
Reverse side of post card with a commemorative cancellation for the final day of the National
Philatelic Exhibition (May 31) and a Bratislava post bus cancellation for September 6, 1942.

Franked with two 70 halierov "Dr. Josef Tiso" definitives of 1942, this unmailed post card depicts (in the wrong colour) the high value of a four stamp set issued on the first day of the National Philatelic Exhibition, Bratislava (May 23, 1942). This value depicts the arms of Slovakia on the stamp in the design. The low value of the set depicts the arms of Bratislava. Franked with two 70 halierov "Dr. Josef Tiso" definitives of 1942, the post card has been cancelled twice on different dates. The first cancellation, "May 31, 1942" marks the closing date of the one week stamp exhibition. The inscription on the cancellation, "celostatna vystava postovych znamok" translates as "national exhibition of postage stamps." A second Bratislava cancellation dated September 6, 1942 is an "Autoposta" cancellation depicting a post bus. The post bus services in the Austro-Hungarian Empire dated back to 1908 and in 1934 they were integrated into the Czech state railwary system. Combining public transport with mail delivery and collection, the postbus was a means of providing public transport in rural areas where other bus service would be uneconomical. The passenger fare would be payable to the driver or mail carrier.
