Upper Yafa

International Year of Human Rights and the Fifth Anniversary of the Death of John F. Kennedy Issues
Stamps issued on October 30, 1967 commemorating events of the following year: International
Human Rights Year and the Fifth Anniversary of the Death of John F. Kennedy.

The stamps of Upper Yafa are classic examples of "Sand Dunes" stamps with topical interest but little or no postal utility. This sultanate was part of Aden and the protectorate of South Arabia with a brief span of independence from September until December 1967. According to Stamp World, a total of 97 stamps were issued. The last sets of stamps issued were sets of paintings and flowers issued on November 25, 1967. Evidence suggests that the stamps were produced by Format Security Printers and it seems unlikely that any of them were delivered to Upper Yafa or saw postal use. Upper Yafa lost its independent status and was amagamated into the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen in December 1967.
