Shibaozhai - The Stone Treasure Fortress

In the early 1800's, a nine storey staircase was built to facilitate access to the Stone Treasure Fortress perched at the top of this cliff. Later, a three storey pavillion was added at the top. The site gets it name from the temple perched 30 metres above the water, built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1735-1796), that is famous for having a hole in the wall, which, according to legend, provided enough rice to feed the Buddhist monks who lived there until a greedy monk attempted to make the hole larger.

From the Store Treasure Fortress there is a good view of Yangtze and cruise boats docked for visits to the fortress.
