Battle of Aljubarrota

Battle of Aljubarrota

In 1385 Joao I inflicted a decisive defeat on the Castilian army that had invaded Portugal to assert their claim to the Portuguese throne. At the Battle of Aljubarrota, Portuguese forces, with the assistance of a small number of English crossbowmen were able to defeat a much larger force of Spanish and Castilian knights by taking advantage of new weaponry and tactics that took advantage of the topography.
