The "Gibraltar of the Caribbean", the Brimstone Fort, is perched on a hill on St. Kitt's west coast.
Cannon face southeast toward Basseterre and the cloud capped peak of Nevis in the distance.
The opposite side of the bastion looks northwest to the Dutch island of St. Eustatius.
A steep driveway snakes up the hillside past several levels of fortifications.
