St. Lucia - March 19, 2009 We only saw Castries from the ship. When we disembarked, we booked a trip to Soufriere and the Pitons that got us back to the ship shortly before it was time to depart. Torrential rains began as we were waiting for the watertaxi to leave from the dock. It threatened to be a very claustrophobic experience as the space in the cabin was limited. Fortunately the rain subsided well before we disembarked in Soufriere to crowd into a taxi van to drive through the town and into the cone of the volcano. The line ups of taxis and tourists both there and at the waterfall may have reflected the presence of three large cruise ships in Castries harbour. The snorkelling stop at Anse Chastanet was much more pleasant. Both the quantity and variety of fish were impressive and made this stop the highlight of our visit to Saint Lucia.
