St. Thomas - March 16, 2009

On our previous visit to St. Thomas we did not visit Charlotte Amalie. This time we took a taxi into town and enjoyed admiring the many beautifully restored buildings, the quaint alleyways and impressive views of the harbour. We enjoyed the pleasant half hour stroll back to the ship along the waterfront from the downtown area. A planned hike to Morningside Beach in the afternoon was washed out by torrential rains. Several kind people took pity on the drenched tourists and offered us rides, but we did not want to soak the seats of their vehicles.

One disappointment for a stamp collector visiting Saint Thomas was to have post cards mailed from the main post office in Charlotte Amalie arrive at their destinations with "San Juan" postmarks.
