Regular Steamer Connection with the Netherlands

On September 28, 1977 Surinam issued a set of six stamps commemorating the 150th anniversary of the regular steamer connection between Surinam and the Netherlands. In six stamps this set travels through time and space from Hellevoetsluis in South Holland in 1827 on the packet Curacao to Paramaribo in Surinam in 1852 and then to the modern K.N.S.M. steamer, S.S. Stuyvesant. The 5 cent denomination portrays the packet Curacao of 1827. The 15 cent denomination portrays Hellevoetsluis Harbour in the Netherlands and an 1827 postmark. The 30 cent denomination portrays a sea chart and the technical details of the Curacao. The 35 cent denomination features a logbook and a compass rose. The 60 cent denomination shows a map of Paramaribo Harbour and an 1852 postmark. The 95 cent denomination has an image of the modern liner Stuyvesant.
