Ubangi-Shari
First Definitive Overprints

In 1915 stamps of Middle Congo were overprinted "OUBANGUI-CHARI-TCHAD".
In 1897 the first stamps used in Ubangi-Shari were the general issues for French Colonies. It became a colony in 1904 but it remained a part of the Middle Congo postal administration until 1915 when the overprints depicted above were issued. Chad became a separate colony in 1920 but it did not get its own stamps until 1922. At that time a new set of definitives overprinted "OUBANGUI-SHARI" were issued for Ubangi-Shari. Stamps for French Equatorial Africa were used from 1936-1960.

Founded in 1868 at the Abbey of Aiguebelle by the Trappist monks, the Chocolatrie
d'Aiguebelle issued this French Colonies trading card for Ubangi-Shari around 1910.

The Black Lion Chemical Company in Montrouge distributed a series
of trading cards for French colonies including this one for Ubangi-Shari.
