The Hotel Ambos Mundos on Opisbo Street, where Ernest Hemingway stayed during
his first visit to Cuba in 1932 and on many subsequent visits. Here, in Room 511 he
wrote To Have and Have Not and the first three chapters of For Whom the Bell Tolls.
Hemmingway is said to have been a regular at El Floridita where the
barman, Constantino Ribalaigua, invented the daiquiri. A famous bust of
Hemmingway by Fernando Boada is prominently displayed in this bar.
In 1939 Hemingway purchased a villa on the outskirts of Havana in San Francisco
de Paula. The villa was made into a public museum after Hemingway's death in
1962. The author's library, hunting trophies and his fishing boat, Pilar are on display .
