Although it is the administrative capital of the Galapagos Islands, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is a smaller town than Puerto Ayora. The island of San Cristobal (also known as Chatham Island)is the fifth largest island in the archipelago. It was the site of the Hacienda El Progreso the centre of the cattle and sugar cane enterprises established by Manuel J. Cobos, starting in 1866.
Darwin Finch Display in the Interpretation Centre
Built with assistance from the Spanish government,the interpretation centre on the edge of town offers extensive explanations of the natural and social history of the Galapagos Islands.
The walk on the paths and boardwalks outside the interpretation centre treats the visitor to views of the flora and fauna of the dry lowlands.
